The 'Luxelakes Bottle Bank' is a community building and public art project based on the concept of low-carbon and sustainable communities. We collaborated with residents, volunteers, and community staff from Luxelakes to collect over 1000 discarded plastic bottles. Through various creative techniques such as painting and handicrafts, we imaginatively transformed and 'regenerated' these discarded bottles, creating over 200 children's art pieces made from bottles. Some of these works were showcased in themed display windows at bus media stations during the Chengdu World Horticultural Exposition. Additionally, the story of the 'Bottle Bank' was adapted into a puppet show under the guidance of a theater director. Children from the community performed using puppet characters made from discarded plastic bottles, interpreting real environmental protection stories that occurred in the Luxelakes Park community. The young artists from the community were fully involved in character design, stage design, puppet making, and puppet show performances. In 2023, they presented an extraordinary community environmental puppet show titled 'The Bottle's Adventure in Luxelakes', which was performed and exhibited at the 'China Children's Drama Festival' and the 'iSTART Children's Art Festival' at the Luxelakes A4 Art Museum. Furthermore, it was adapted into an animated film premiering at the Luxelakes Fishing Festival. We aim for this project to not rely on 'technology' and 'data', but rather to use artistic intervention and community advocacy to promote the concept of low-carbon living. By connecting people's thoughts and physical interactions, we aim to convey the idea of low-carbon lifestyles. Using the reuse of ubiquitous 'waste bottles' as a starting point, we've created a unique and vibrant environmental narrative 'scene' for the community's children, allowing 'sustainability' to return to everyday life.
