Against the backdrop of rapid development of both urban and rural areas in China, a large amount of urban and rural community spaces left idle, passive, vacant, or scattered, are in dire need of optimization. And the invigoration of community public spaces through low-carbon and eco-friendly approaches will be the new paradigm of future community renewal so that sustainable goals of social development equality and localization of economic benefits can be achieved. As a result, a solution featuring a lightweight structural system of raw bamboo has been developed with the help of modern construction systems and building technologies. Raw bamboo, a sort of material abundant in China, as well as being flexible, easily obtained, fast-growing, and low in embodied energy, has been applied to the project, where the bamboo structure, which can be easily assembled and disassembled, touches the ground with lightness and elegance, adapting to diverse site conditions and functional demands with its spatial flexibility. Furthermore, the project can be both replicated and adjusted on demand to boost communities’ living quality, social development, and local economy. The highly compatible building technologies can be applied not only in developed regions, where building parts are pre-fabricated in factories and assembled on-site, but also in under-developed regions where local craftsmen build with locally obtained materials. The positive nodes and operational patterns brought by raw bamboo construction can invigorate the whole community, bringing remarkable economic and social benefits. Bamboo’s unique features and the building’s operational pattern make the project both an effective model for creating public spaces and a sort of positive response to the challenge of carbon neutrality.
当代中国城乡高速发展的背景下,大量闲置、消极,或空白斑块的城乡场地亟待改善。以低环境资源消耗方式激活公共空间,实现人文社会平等发展和经济效益本地化的可持续目标,将是未来社区更新的新范式。 针对这一问题,本项目充分利用竹材储量大、易获取、生长快、可塑性强的低蕴能量材料特征,结合现代建构体系及施工工艺,研发原竹轻型结构系统解决方案,以灵活的空间形态适应复杂的场地和多样的功能,轻触地面、易拆易建。项目具有可复制性,可按需调整用于城乡社区的环境品质提升,促进人文社会和地方经济的发展。建造技术有广泛的兼容性,在欠发达地区可就地取材,依赖工匠施工,在发达地区可采用预制装配方法。 自2017年至今,通过理论和实践反复印证迭代,已形成成熟的技术体系。目前已建成安徽尚村竹篷乡堂、北京林业大学云在亭、福建寿宁竹管垅乡茶青市场、江苏扬州世园会国际竹藤组织馆四个案例。 通过原竹构建,营造积极的节点空间和使用模式,可以激活整个社区,带来显著经济和社会效益。竹材自身的特性和建筑本身的模式,使得该项目具有良好的推广示范性,成为建成环境公共空间营造的有效方法,同时也是面向碳中和挑战的积极应对策略。
