Be Perfect : Gloss Preciousness, Jewelry Design for Dong Craft 布完美·惜光计划 侗布系列首饰设计

The intangible cultural treasure of the Dong cloth, which is elegantly and sophistically made to exhibit a beautiful metallic gloss, is found deep in the mountains of the Guizhou province. The fabric is customarily only used to create garments for the Dong people’s traditional performance, the Grand Song of Dong Minority. Hence it was at risk of being lost due to this restriction. Through eight years of trials and efforts, the Be Perfect team has evaluated the viability of incorporating the Dong cloth with conventional life. The team had successively launched products such as business bags and had been widely praised and recognized. In the face of the problem of defective fabrics and leftovers in the mass production process, we launched the Be Perfect : Gloss Preciousness, Jewelry Design for Dong Craft. We embrace the idea that “imperfect” is beautiful through reflecting on material waste and respect the “imperfection” of the hand-made Dong cloth. Using fashion jewelry design as a means, we are exploring sustainable design solutions for the regeneration of Dong cloth surplus materials and advocate the full utilization of noble handmade fabrics. We combine Dong cloth leftover materials with metal crafts, emphasizing the simplicity and warmth of traditional crafts, and create a series of contemporary fabric jewelry full of fashion through various modern design techniques such as folding, inlaying, and composite materials. The design breaks through the use of bright cloth fabrics as festive dresses, and transforms them into fashion jewelry that meets the public's aesthetics and urban consumption scenes. At the same time, it takes into account the 100% utilization of handmade fabrics, responding to the design proposition of making traditional crafts glow with contemporary value. We advocate the oriental life aesthetics of "cherishing things because they are rare", and reshape the new generation’s understandings of traditional Chinese culture. Use is the best intangible cultural heritage activation; Popularization is the best cultural inheritance. We embody the greatest goodwill of design, and makes intangible cultural heritage live in the current lifestyle.

大山深处的非遗侗族手作亮布是世界非遗侗族大歌表演时的盛装礼服面料，独特的金属光泽是亮布的特色所在，但由于制作工序繁琐和使用场景局限，这种传统工艺正面临失传的风险。布完美团队经过八年的实践，深耕侗族亮布与当下生活方式结合的可能性，先后推出了公务包袋等系列产品并取得了广泛的社会认可。 同时面对量产过程中瑕疵面料及边角余料的问题，我们发起布完美惜光计划，接纳手作侗布的不完美，提出布完美即是美的理念，以时尚首饰设计作为手段，探索侗布余料再生、倡导尊贵手作面料全利用的可持续设计解决方案。我们将侗布余料与金属工艺相结合，强调传统工艺的朴拙和温情，通过折叠、镶嵌、复合材料等多种现代设计手法，打造出充满时尚感的当代布艺首饰系列。设计突破了亮布面料作为节庆礼服的使用场景，转化为符合大众审美和都市消费场景的时尚首饰，同时兼顾手作面料百分百全利用，回应了让传统工艺焕发当代价值这一设计命题。 我们倡导“因为珍稀，所以珍惜”的东方惜物生活美学，并通过面向零零后消费者的推广，重塑新生代对传统、对时尚的追求和认识。使用是最好的非遗活化，普及是最好的文化传承，体现设计最大的善意，让非遗活在当下的生活方式里。
